ISTANBUL, July 27 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police detained 44 police officers on Saturday across the country over their alleged links to a group accused of orchestrating a coup attempt in 2016.

Simultaneous operations were launched in 30 provinces to catch a total of 64 suspects, including 44 police officers on active duty, the state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

During the operations, a total of 47 suspects have been detained, as raids are continuing to grab the others, Anadolu said.

Ankara blames the network led by Fethullah Gulen, a U.S.-based Turkish cleric, for the July 2016 coup bid, in which 250 people were killed.
