SHARAN, Afghanistan, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Two civilians, including a 10-year-old child, were killed and three police officers wounded after a car bomb explosion ripped through a dusty road in eastern province of Paktika on Tuesday, local police said.

"The car bomb was detonated at midday when the vehicle of Abdul Wudood, police chief of Mata Khan district was passing by the area. The police chief was not hurt in the blast, but three police offers aboard the vehicle sustained injuries," the provincial police spokesman told Xinhua.

Meanwhile, an unofficial source said police chief also received minor wounds in the attack.

The police spokesman blamed Taliban militant group for the attack.

The Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant since early April when the militant group launched its annual rebel offensive in different places of the country, which had claimed hundreds of lives including militants, security personnel and civilians.
