CARACAS, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez on Wednesday announced the government's decision to suspend aerial and maritime communications with the neighboring islands of Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao.

"We have decided to make the decision to suspend all types of private and commercial flights and ship traffic to the islands of Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire," Rodriguez said.

In addition, the government decided to place "under review" the relationship between the mentioned islands, the vice president said.

Rodriguez said the measure follows "the decision by the Curacao government to serve as a reception center for the alleged forced humanitarian aid."

The United States and other countries in the region, in coordination with the Venezuelan opposition, have declared their plan to deliver humanitarian aid into Venezuela on Feb. 23.

The three islands share a border in the northwestern region with Venezuela and are part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Rodriguez added that Curacao in particular is the island with which Venezuela has maintained "historical friendship, neighbor, cooperation and brotherhood relationship."

She regretted that Curacao "has decided to lend itself to the show, which is trying to intervene in Venezuela."
