SANTIAGO, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- A total of 100 Chinese-made electric buses have arrived at a Chilean port and will join the country's public transportation fleet in the capital soon, local media reported Thursday.

The buses will be incorporated into Transantiago, the capital Santiago's mass transit system, servicing a route that covers central Grecia Avenue.

According to BYD's branch office in Chile, the buses that are equipped with the latest technology will be unloaded on Saturday and will begin operating in December.

The 30-seat buses, with a maximum capacity of 81 passengers, are equipped with air conditioning system, USB ports for charging mobile devices and Wi-Fi.

Two Chinese-made electric buses have been operating in the city for several months, traveling over 100,000 km and transporting more than 350,000 passengers, which has gained highly appreciation from the public.

In October, President Sebastian Pinera hailed the modernization of public transit with the inclusion of electric vehicles, including the 100 BYD buses and another 100 from Chinese company Yutong.
