UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations has resumed its cross-border humanitarian deliveries from Turkey to Syria, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said Thursday.

The world organization on Wednesday resumed deliveries from the Bab al-Hawa border crossing point in Turkey into Idlib governorate in Syria, said the spokesman.

A total of 25 trucks with food and medical supplies were delivered into Syria on Wednesday, the first delivery following the UN decision on Jan. 20 to temporarily halt deliveries due to security concerns, said Dujarric. An additional 15 trucks delivered assistance on Thursday, he added.

Security remains a concern along the border. Due to the security situation, the United Nations is maintaining its temporary suspension of deliveries through Bab al-Salam, the second border crossing point in Turkey authorized by a UN Security Council resolution, said Dujarric.

Mitigation measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of UN staff at Bab al-Hawa, including the use of armored vehicles and restrictions on staff authorized in the area, he added.

The United Nations estimates that 13.1 million Syrians need assistance.
