BANGKOK, June 25 (Xinhua) -- The third UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence (AI) officially opened here on Wednesday, with the goal of driving tangible progress and inspiring international collaboration toward a responsible AI-powered future.
The forum convened global leaders, AI experts, industry pioneers, and policymakers to discuss AI development challenges and opportunities, emphasizing the balance of innovation and responsibility and encouraging global collaboration for inclusive, ethical AI governance.
In her opening remarks, UNESCO's Director-General Audrey Azoulay underscored the urgency of guiding AI development with ethical values, noting how AI is reshaping all aspects of life and placing humanity at a critical turning point.
Azoulay called for a collective effort to navigate this transformation, stressing the need for inclusive multilateral collaboration among governments, experts, businesses, and civil society.
"Because AI is a global phenomenon, it requires an international response," she said. "That is what UNESCO is working to provide -- preparing the world for AI and preparing AI for the world, ensuring it serves the common good."
Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra said the Thai government aims to use AI as a driving force for economic and social development, with a focus on transparency, responsibility, and strong ethical foundations. ■
