BUDAPEST, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Led by Olympic medalist Gabor Harspataki, Hungary has announced a 72-member team for the upcoming 2025 World Games in Chengdu, committing to deliver outstanding performances.
Janos Meszaros, president of the Hungarian Competitive Sport Federation, stated that Hungarian athletes will participate in 19 different sports.
"Our team achieved its best-ever results at the last edition of the World Games, winning 11 gold medals, 7 silvers, and 9 bronzes. This highlights the growing significance of the World Games in Hungarian sports. I believe we can replicate these remarkable achievements in Chengdu," Meszaros said at a press conference on Thursday.
Gabor Harspataki, who won a bronze medal in men's 57kg karate at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, is hopeful for an improved performance in his second World Games appearance.
"We finished fifth last time, which was disappointing. I aim to win a medal and shine as much as possible this time. I am the only Hungarian karate competitor, but my coach and teammates will support me. We know little about Chengdu, and we are eager to learn and explore," said the 29-year-old.
Anna Makranszki, a member of the defending champion team in aerobic gymnastics, expressed her goal to enjoy both the competition and Chinese culture.
"This is my second World Games but my first time in Chengdu. Our aim is to perform our best and enjoy our routines and the experience. We are very excited to visit the city and experience its culture," Makranszki said.
Running from August 7 to 17, the 2025 World Games will feature 34 sports and 60 disciplines. ■
