RIO DE JANEIRO, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Kaio Jorge continued his prolific scoring form as Cruzeiro climbed to the top of Brazil's Serie A on Thursday with a 2-0 away win over Fluminense.
Fabricio Bruno gave the visitors the lead at the Maracana Stadium by heading home from Matheus Pereira's cross on the half hour.
Pereira was again the provider five minutes later, slipping a precise pass into the path of Kaio, who toe-poked home from close range.
Former Juventus striker Kaio has now scored 12 goals in 13 league matches this season.
"It's very difficult to play Fluminense here at the Maracana but our team is also very strong and we came with a solid game plan," the 23-year-old told reporters.
"I'm very happy with the goal but the win was the most important thing. We have great team spirit and that is showing in our performances."
Cruzeiro now has 30 points from 14 games, three more than second-placed Flamengo, which has a game in hand. Fluminense is seventh in the 20-team standings, 10 points further back. ■
