SYDNEY, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Three people have been arrested after a house was shot at and a getaway car was set on fire in western Sydney on Thursday morning.
Police in Australia's state of New South Wales (NSW) said in a statement on Thursday that officers were called to reports of shots being fired at a house in Merrylands, 20 km west of central Sydney, about 9:20 a.m. on Thursday.
Police said that nobody was home at the time of the shooting and that there were no reported injuries.
A short time later, a burnt-out Porsche used by the shooters to flee the scene was located in the neighboring suburb of Chester Hill.
The group of three left Chester Hill in a second vehicle before being arrested while trying to flee from police on foot.
Crime scenes have been established at the home and the location where the burnt car was found, and the matter has been referred to Taskforce Falcon for investigation.
Taskforce Falcon was established by NSW Police last month to investigate and suppress a spike in violent crimes in Sydney linked to organized crime gangs. ■
