MACAO, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Electronic payment data from Macao's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) on Tuesday showed that in the first four months of 2025, spending at restaurants grew modestly, while retail trade saw a sharp decline.
According to the DSEC, from January to April, the value of electronic payment transactions for restaurants and similar establishments increased by 2.3 percent year-on-year to 4.57 billion patacas (approximately 565.6 million U.S. dollars). Fast-food restaurants and local-style cafes, congee and noodle shops posted growth of 8.6 percent and 6.2 percent, respectively.
In the meantime, data showed that retail trade recorded 16.71 billion patacas in electronic payments during the first four months, a 15.8 percent year-on-year decrease. Leather goods and department store sales fell sharply, while pharmacy transactions rose 6.3 percent. ■
