          Indian PM announces more relief for families of workers killed in Iraq in 2014

          NEW DELHI, April 3 (Xinhua) -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday announced an ex-gratia relief of 15,375 U.S. dollars to each family whose member was killed in Iraq in 2014, officials said.

          "Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced ex-gratia payment of 1 million Indian rupees (15,375 U.S. dollars) each to the next of the kin of those who were killed in Mosul, Iraq," reads a statement issued by Prime Minister's Office.

          Thirty-nine Indians were kidnapped and subsequently killed by the members of Islamic State in Iraq in 2014.

          Indian government through DNA tests managed to find their remains in a mass grave in Badoush village on the outskirts of Mosul.

          On Monday India's Junior External Affairs minister V. K. Singh brought the mortal remains of 38 of the 39 Indians in a special plane and handed them over to their families.

          Majority of the workers hailed from northern Indian state of Punjab.
