SEOUL, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- South Korean President Moon Jae-in said Thursday that improved ties with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will inevitably go in tandem with the denuclearized Korean Peninsula.

Moon made the remark during his meeting with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier visiting South Korea for the 23rd Winter Olympics, according to the presidential Blue House.

He said South Korea's focus is being placed on how to maintain a dialogue mood created between the two Koreas continuing beyond the Winter Olympics and developing into talks between the DPRK and the United States.

During the inter-Korean talks in January, Pyongyang agreed to send its athletes, cheerleaders and artists, who have already arrived in South Korea, as well as a high-ranking delegation to the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

The ranking DPRK delegation, led by Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, is scheduled to arrive in South Korea via plane on Friday to attend the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics.

The opening ceremony is slated to be held Friday evening at South Korea's eastern county of PyeongChang.

One of the three ranking DPRK delegates is Kim Yo Jong, the younger sister of top DPRK leader Kim Jong Un and the first vice director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK).

President Moon expressed his anticipation that the DPRK's decision to participate in the South Korea-hosted winter sports event can enhance inter-Korean relations and make the PyeongChang Winter Olympics a peace Olympic.
