MALE, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Maldives government has vowed to maintain peace and stability of the country amid a recent Supreme Court's verdict regarding opposition leaders, according to local media reports on Saturday.

The Supreme Court on Thursday ordered immediate release of all high-profile prisoners, including former President Mohamed Nasheed and former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb.

The court said in a statement that the prisoners must be freed until fair trials could be conducted without undue influence.

Ministers and lawmakers said the government would continue its work undeterred and condemned any alleged plot to topple the government.

"There is nothing stated in the verdict that could bring an end to President (Abdulla) Yameen's government," said MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla, deputy leader of the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

"We will do whatever it takes to protect the Maldivian government. Both our parties love peace. We will not allow a coup that could overthrow a lawful government from the streets," said MP Ali Mauroof, deputy leader of the PPM's coalition partner Maldives Development Alliance.
